July Beauty Box Battle and Final Thoughts

 Hi all!

Before I start receiving my August boxes I thought I’d do a summary of July and my thoughts, since I got three boxes this month.

My first Kinder Beauty Box was a win, I think. I definitely wasn’t impressed with a couple of the products and had trouble with others, but specifically the three from Earth Harbor were very good and I felt like I got a good value for what I paid.

The box felt specifically curated and thoughtful, and their website was incredibly easy to use to find what my box was, what my options were, etc. I’m really excited to get my next one and see if it’s just as complete and easy to use.

I’ve been using the Earth Harbor skincare since I got the box and, since the jars are very small, I know I don’t have a ton of time left before they run out. But I thought I’d give some last thoughts on those items since they’ve actually gotten some time in my routine.

The cleanser is very creamy and does not foam up at all, which I enjoy in the mornings especially when my skin just needs a light rinse. The moisturizer and eye cream have been nice, sink in great, and leave me feeling refreshed – but I’ve noticed that they have an extremely strong fragrance that does make it hard to breathe right when I’m applying them. Specifically, after applying my moisturizer and putting on the eye cream, I keep having to take my hands away from my face to breathe or I’ll cough and sputter. It’s been a little bit of a headache.

The other products I reviewed I didn’t use again, so I don’t have any other thoughts about those.

Overall I’m happy with the Kinder Beauty Box and hope the next one has products that are maybe a little bigger and easy to use so there isn’t half a box left over. I give this one a 6/10

My July BoxyCharm didn’t leave that much of an impression on me so I have to go look up what items were in it so I can write something about it.

Be right back.

Okay so, this box was pretty unremarkable in theme and personalization. I know that BoxyCharm is the least curated box, if you will, but I really just don’t get it. Three eye products, a cream, and some cream face products. Just like, fell flat.

Like I said though, this box wasn’t customized by me because I didn’t know how to customize through this service. I still don’t, their website is so hard to use.

When I go to their site to review the products I got, I get a big long list of every single product in the lineup that month. There’s nothing distinguishing which products I actually got, and there are some products I actually got that aren’t even listed.

Then they say, you can only review the ones you got. No, I can review anything on this page. It’s really silly and overly complicated.

There’s also no way to actually add-on products, they just ship in a separate order.

And it’s frustrating that since there’s no way to see what I got, the things you can order are just more of the things you got, so you can accidentally order something to compliment your box and get the same item in the box. Why would they do it that way, you know?

So it’s just the most frustrating of the boxes. I honestly don’t feel like spending money on it anymore but like, maybe one day it’ll be good? And I definitely am happy for the Complex Culture palette I got, that thing got me a few compliments at work the other day. I give it a 5/10.

IPSY really came through though I loved this month’s box. This Yensa foundation is just such a breath of fresh air and such a great product to be introduced to, this Kimchi bronzer (although it still topples over constantly) is so easy to blend, and I liked most of my add-ons and things I picked myself.

I have used this foundation every day since I got it and I love it to death. I can’t say enough good things about it, I can’t wait to see if they have a shade that’ll match my pale face in the winter, I can’t wait to try new products with it, I feel like I’ve just been given a puppy.

I do have an update about the Refreshments by IPSY Micellar water though – I got those bamboo cleaning pads from my Kinder Beauty Box and they were smaller and easier to use with that weird pump. What I did – what I figured out to do – what a smart Dani would have done – was just pressed down on the pump with a cleaning sponge which would automatically soak up the product.

So maybe I’m a lil slow. Okay, I’ll take it.

That being said, the product was okay and I may continue to use it. Pretty sure that was the only product I disliked – there were a few things I didn’t end up using but that was all.

IPSY’s website is super easy to use and it was simple to keep track of what I received, added on, and bought. The only thing you can’t do is see what your add-ons cost when you initially pick them out for your box – well maybe you can, but I don’t know how to and it ought to be obvious.

So July’s IPSY box gets an 8/10 and wins again – I am really happy, though, that I get to have these other boxes to try.

Keep an eye out for the next reviews for August! I should be able to pick out my IPSY add-ons pretty soon.

Thanks for reading,

Dani
