Ranking My Juvia’s Place Palettes

I’ve been thinking about doing a post like this for so long! And the other day I finally hit pan on my very favorite six-pan palette from Juvia’s Place and realized it’s about time.

A few years ago I was starting to experiment more with makeup, and I was moving on from chill, neutral tutorials to more colorful and full glam looks. So I was in the market for a brand that lent itself well to experimentation and wasn’t super expensive.

I had previously tried some of Beauty Bakerie’s products and really liked those, but they were often sold out of my shades and since they were a small business their variety wasn’t great. I had always wanted to try the foundation, but couldn’t get the one I wanted because they had been sold out for months.

I heard about Juvia’s place back when all those Youtubers were reviewing their full-coverage foundation, and I ordered a bunch of things on their site since there was a sale. I came to learn that there is always a sale.

Although the foundation is far too thick and caked for me, I do use the lightest shade of their concealer as a mixer in the fall and winter, since the applicator pulls out so much product and it’s easy to mix. I also did not like the formula for their larger palettes, the nine-pans – they’re powdery without the fallout, but they weren’t very good for me.

This isn’t going to be an overall review of the brand or anything, but I will say I consistently use their six-pan palettes and have loved how compact they are, and their color stories tend to follow really well. And they’re pigmented unlike anything I’ve tried besides maybe the Natasha Denona palettes.

So when I hit pan on my very favorite shade in my very favorite palette, I figured it’s time to do an overview of the ones I have and how often I use which ones and why!

These are in order from least liked/used to most liked/used, to stick around to find out which one I hit pan on 😉

I should also mention I do not own all of their six-pan palettes, specifically the ones that have come out more recently, and I don’t still have all the ones I’ve ever bought. This isn’t a ranking of everything I’ve ever tried, it’s going to be a ranking of all the ones I kept (some of which, after this ranking, I won’t be keeping).

Also, it’d be good for you to know that the six-pan palettes do not have shade names, so if I’m saying “the dark red” I promise I’m not just being lazy, there just isn’t a name for the shade. The exception is the Vanessa palette, but I don’t care.

My least favorite palette I’ve ever ordered from Juvia’s Place is the Olori II Palette. It is a palette of all deep blue shades, and five of them are shimmers, and they all look the same on my eyes. I mean, not all the same same, but they’re all deep sparkly blues. They didn’t even do any interesting textures or anything like they have in other palettes. Boring AF. I don’t know what I thought I was buying and I plan to get rid of it or maybe sell it, since I have barely touched it at all. I know the image makes them seem like completely varied shades, but it’s not the case, and even if it was, five shimmers isn’t all that useful.

Next is the Olori I. This is a more reasonable palette in terms of mattes vs shimmers, but still, it’s just three blues and three oranges. The two matte oranges aren’t even different enough to tell, so you can’t even use one orange as a midtone and the other to deepen the crease. Maybe the dark matte blue would work for that?

My next palette in terms of usefulness is The Taupes. It’s a nice idea and at first I did use it for more chill days, but I found the shimmers were a little dimmer than what I needed to complete the look. There’s also one cool toned gray shade that I can tell they were trying to match with the silver sparkle, but even that sparkly shade isn’t cool enough to work well with it on my skin. It’s still a good palette overall and I’ve used the warm tones, but I still reach for other palettes to find a shimmer for my corner. Not that I’m saying that every single palette must have a shade so bright you can use it in your inner corner, but I just don’t reach for this one because the colors don’t excite me.

Next is the Nubian Royal. This is actually the first palette I received from Juvia’s, and I loved it when I got it, I used it so often. The way it mixed purples and blues was really intriguing to me. The lavender shade worked really well on my skin when I was more pale, and there was a deep sparkle shade with a super unique sticky formula. I used this a ton, but after buying more of their palettes, it’s no longer my go to.

The next palette is The Nudes – this palette sort of has the opposite problem with the Taupes, it is a lot of very light bright shades and one mid brown, but there aren’t any shades for deepening up. I prefer it this though, to be honest, because I’d rather my lid be too light than too dark. The formula for this brown is amazing, by the way, and the shimmers are very good on the lid and in the inner corner. Between the Taupes and the Nudes, you could actually get a very varied look together.

Vanessa is the next palette in my list, and it’s kind of the start of my go-to’s. Full disclosure: I did not and still do not know who Vanessa is. Honestly no clue. She probably looks a little like this picture.. This is an amazing palette in terms of color story, variety, and textures. It has a nice gradient (for my specific skin tone, of course) from a lighter, neutral midtone to some deeper, earthy crease colors, and the two shimmer shades are gorgeous as well; the top left is a golden color with an excellent formula and super bright, and one is a smooth and buttery shimmer that’s pink and a little more subtle. The pictures make them both look pink, I’m not sure what that’s about, but top left is actually even more golden than the shade below it.

Next is the i Live, i Love Ice palette. I fell in love with this one as soon as I saw it; it’s gorgeous and all very wintery, icy blue hues. It has two nice and buttery matte shades, one is a very light cool blue, almost off-white, and the other is a nice blue midtone. The shimmers range from a blinding blue-white shimmer which I love to put on my inner corner to a dark, starlight sparkle full of navy blues and crystal blues. Although I don’t wear a lot of blue on my eyes and tend more toward neutrals, this palette still ranks high for me because it’s gorgeous and well thought out, and I get consistent compliments when I wear it out.

The Mauves are next. I have enjoyed using this palette for so many reasons – even though at first glance it’s one of their more typical palettes and not incredibly exciting, it’s actually been perfect for me to use when I’m in a rush. The first thing I like about it is that it’s mostly matte, with four mattes and two shimmers. I like this because for the types of looks I do, I really only use one or two shimmers but may use three or four mattes: one for my hood, one for my crease, and possibly one to deepen the crease and another for under the eye. So this palette is great for that look, because there are two good crease and hood colors, two deeper colors to deepen, and two shimmers to add texture. But the star of this palette is the light pinky mauve shimmer. The photos online do not do this shade justice, it is one of the best shimmers I have ever tried. It goes on smooth and almost feels like one of those foiled shimmers, but it’s not scratchy. I’ve used it on my lid mostly and it is absolutely stunning, has to be my second favorite shade from the entire brand.

Palettes 3, 2, and 1 are visibly loved and you can see how far I am into the pans. The Chocolates palette isn’t my favorite to look at, but I’ve definitely used it enough that it deserves to be at spot 3.  It does look like a box of chocolates and gives off rich, warm vibes. The two shimmer shades are nothing special to me, they look identical on my skin and they’re so dark – I use shimmers mostly in my inner corner and inner third of my lid to brighten, so I really have no need for dark shimmers like this. But the mattes are amazing. There’s a really nice warm midtone to start with, then a warm, hot-chocolate-with-cream shade, and then two deep coffee browns that I’ve used along my lash line for some good smokey eyes. The lighter midtone is the midtone I reach for most of all my shadows from all my brands.

My second favorite palette – and second most loved – is the Bronzed Rustic, which lives up to its name and has brought me so much joy since I’ve had it. It’s another warm toned palette containing a matte mustard yellow, a pure red, and several bronzes and browns with different tones and textures. This palette is how I discovered that yellow is an amazing color for me and inspired me to start playing around with colors I hadn’t tried before. The light brown is a perfect midtone for me, the dark chestnut brown is excellent deeper in the crease, and the red is a nice pop of color along the lash line or the undereye. And the two deeper sparkly shades are also excellent – one is a rusty pinkish brown, and the other is a deeper brown like fall leaves. I have used so much of all these shades there are visible dents.

And the drumroll! My most loved and most used and most adored palette from Juvia’s Place is the Blushed Rose, Bronzed Rustic’s sister from that launch. I feel actually a little bad calling it the #1, because I mostly used it alongside Bronzed Rustic, but I decided it’s the favorite because it’s the one I hit pan on. This palette is predominantly pink and red, but does have one beautiful orange shimmery shade. I loved this palette for subtle pink looks, as it does have a good progression of mattes from light pink to a deeper mauve to a more rich brick color, but what does it for me are the two shimmers, specifically the pink.

This shade gets its own paragraph. This eyeshadow is the most incredible formula and has the most brilliant, eye catching pigment I’ve ever experienced. It’s like you’re watching a waterfall when you blink, the colors just jump out at you everywhere. I’ve used it all over the lid and on the inner corner and the browbone. It’s been an absolute pleasure to use. The orange is just as beautiful and one time I mixed them together and had a makeup-gasm and was a little embarrassed and haven’t done that since😶

And that’s everything! Those are the palettes I currently own (for now 🙄) and that’s the best ranking I can come up with in terms of how much I like to use and look a them – and maybe a little bias in favor of the ones I’ve had a longer time.

Thanks for reading and walking through some of my favorites with me. Although I don’t purchase from Juvia’s Place as often as I used to, I’m very happy to have found some gems.

I’ll see you guys in the next one; right now I’m working on an updates post, because I have some thoughts on other products I’ve been using over the last few months.

See you soon!

Dani
